One of the challenges a lot of our nutrition clients face, is how to deal with work lunches. While we can make certain recommendations what to order at a Restaurant, mainly a plain protein source and vegetables, which could be a green salad and a chicken breast. Leave away the salad dressing and add some vinegar instead, no oil. If you track your food, which we would highly recommend, track at least half a table spoon of oil to the food you see on your plate. It might be even more, you would be surprised. These extra calories, that we neither see (nor asked for) are the exact reason why we recommend eating out as little as possible, as long as you are on a diet. Especially, if the lunch or dinner occasion is not something you are particularly looking forward to, because they might ruin your progress. So here are a few of our very pragmatic strategies for business lunches:
Cancel every unnecessary lunch and dinner dates
We know it sounds very simplistic, but often we just go on these dates because we feel we must and not because we really want to. So, take a closer look at your agenda and decide which lunches or dinners are necessary and which ones can easily be canceled.
Dates that you don’t want to cancel – turn them into something else
- Turn your lunch into an extended coffee break.
- Turn it into a walk outside. Sometime your friends might even be happy to get some fresh air and steps.
- You combine 1 and 2.
- You turn your lunch into a take-a-way lunch in the office or outside, so you can prep your food at home and bring it to the office.
Most importantly, remember your goal and do what is necessary to achieve this goal. If that means cancelling a few lunches, so be it. If you are looking for a personal coaching to work on your dietary and fitness goals, feel free to get in touch with us here.
